This is a sample of some of the work I have done. Due to NDAs, some screens of final designs can only be provided upon request. I would also like to acknowledge all my teammates on these projects. I couldn't have done any of this without the help of all of you. Thank you.

RiRi design concept

Description

RiRi is a device to aid the job of bus conductors in Madras (Chennai). The current bus system often leaves buses packed beyond legal capacity while other buses reamin underutilized. With the RiRi the conductor is given the right information at the right time. Conductors can make better decisions about when to make stops based on capacity as well as the capacity of other buses on the route. This design was an entry for the CHI 2007 Student Design Competition. To see the full paper click here.

Biggest challenge

The problem given was very fuzzy and very few constraints were placed on us. We also faced the challenge of gathering research and testing the prototypes remotely.

Biggest accomplishments

Through several designs, we were able to come up with a solution that aided the conductor without placing an extra burden on them.

KPI dashboard design concept

Description

This is from a set of designs for setting up and customizing a personal dashboard. Users need the flexibility to see the information they want in a variety of way. The challenge was to take what already existed in the system, identify usability issues, and provide a redesign. Through user testing and internal feedback, the final designs met these goals.

Biggest challenges

The most difficult aspect of this set of designs was time and budget constraints. The desing needed to address concerns without causing a significant rewrite.

Biggest accomplishments

We were able to go back and forth with Development on the designs to come up with a solution that improved the user experience without blowing out the project timeline.

Visual query design concept

Description

This is a high level task flow chart (I can provide the designs from the project upon request) for a set of visual query design concepts. The objective of the design is to provide a way for average users to be able perform sophisticated queries. Users should not have to write SQL statements or understand the implementation model in order to get at the information they need. The designs provide users with visual query interfaces that leverage the use of Venn diagrams and other visual paradigms.

Biggest challenges

The biggest challenge here is to simplify the current interface (from a CRM product) without losing much of the flexibility that it currently provides

Biggest accomplishments

During validation, someone claimed that we had made query 'fun'. We were able to provide a nice set of concepts that tested well with both internal and external stakeholders.

Shell/navigation design concept

Description

This wireframe is from a redesign of the shell for a CRM product. Through user feedback, it was determined that the shell needed to be revisited. This included the layout as well as the scheme for navigating the system. Card sorts were used to help determine the grouping of tasks under each navigational area. User feedback helped determine the top two design concepts. From there each concepte went through several iterations.

Biggest challenges

This redesign required that we work within fairly tight constraints based on technical hurdles. Furthermore, it was challenging to convince some internal stakeholders that the existing interface was not providing a good user experience.

Biggest accomplishments

We were able to create a better navigation experience for the user. Isn't that what it's all about?

Acorn logo design

Description

This is a logo created for the working title of a software product.

Biggest challenges

I needed to create something fun and simple without using the obvious. As with other logos, trying to meld images and words in a clever way can be difficult.

Biggest accomplishments

I think I hit the mark with this design. The logo is fun and simple. I was able to fit the image of the squirrel around the text without making it feel too forced. The logo will work well for print as well as viewing on a monitor. The image works well in greyscale.
